Overview of Majors, Minors, and Concentrations
Merrimack College offers 65 undergraduate major programs, 61 undergraduate minor programs, one associate’s degree, and three undergraduate certificate programs.
A major is a specialized program of study, constituted by a focused set of courses, most of which typically are drawn from one discipline, the major discipline, but some of which may be drawn from closely related disciplines (also known as cognates). For example, a major in Psychology requires not only Psychology courses but also a course from Health Sciences. Some of the majors provide opportunities for students to specialize on a focused area within the major discipline by completing a concentration. For example, students majoring in Biology choose from among three concentrations, in Integrative Biology, Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior, or Molecular and Cellular Biology and Biotechnology.
Minors are secondary specializations consisting of fewer courses than a major that allow a student to focus on a part of a larger discipline. Many students choose a combination of one or more majors and/or minors to create an individualized curriculum of study based on their own interests and goals.
An undergraduate certificate is a focused, structured and interrelated set of typically three courses.
The following list includes all of the possible undergraduate majors including those with concentrations, minors, associate’s degree, and certificates. It indicates the School that houses the program. Details regarding each program are provided within the program listing.
