The minor in Interreligious Relations explores the relationship between diverse religious traditions, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It sheds light on how relationships between religions can influence culture, politics, and society around the world. Courses in this minor explore how relations between religious traditions can lead to conflict and violence, and also how they can bring communities together to work toward reconciliation and peace.
This minor enriches all other courses of study at Merrimack College and provides valuable tools in any career. Through examining religious diversity in global contexts, this minor guides students to develop a critical awareness of religious and cultural plurality in today’s world. It equips students with the intellectual tools necessary to discern and evaluate complex inter-religious and intercultural relationships around the world today. Finally, it enables students to sensitively communicate and collaborate with those whose religious or cultural contexts are different than their own, and it engenders greater ethical understanding and responsibility.
