Accreditations


Merrimack College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the Commission indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied though a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the Commission is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Programmatic Accreditations

Merrimack’s B.S. in Civil Engineering, B.S. in Electrical Engineering and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. (www.abet.org)

The Chemistry program is certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The ACS promotes excellence in chemistry education for undergraduate students through approval of baccalaureate chemistry programs. ACS-approved programs offer a broad-based and rigorous chemistry education that gives students intellectual, experimental, and communication skills to become effective scientific professionals.

The teacher preparation programs in elementary, middle, and secondary education as well as Special Education (Moderate Disabilities) have state approval under the Interstate Certification Compact of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification.

The Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Merrimack College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
