The Girard School of Business empowers and inspires students to do well and do good by building their intellect, capabilities, and social awareness through experiential learning, creative pedagogy, and relevant faculty research.

Description
We develop professionals who think critically, communicate effectively and excel in productive roles in the community and the globally competitive marketplace. Committed to the highest standards of teaching and research, our unique approach to business education includes a strong foundation in the liberal arts and Augustinian values, as well as a solid background in business and economics.

Program Requirements
The Girard School of Business offers (1) Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; (2) Bachelor of Science in Finance; (3) Bachelor of Arts in Economics; (4) Bachelor of Arts in Economics Finance; (5) Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics-Economics.
Students will take courses that are distributed among the following categories:
- Merrimack College Liberal Studies Core Curriculum
- Girard School of Business Major Requirements
- If a Business Administration Major, Girard School of Business, Concentration requirements
- Remaining courses are “open” electives
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration students are required to select their concentration at the end of their sophomore year. Although students may change concentrations after their sophomore year, such changes could result in a program of study that extends beyond four years. Girard School students who have chosen the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration must select one concentration and meet those requirements to graduate.
Dual concentrations for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration students are permitted. However, having two concentrations may result in a program of study that extends beyond four years and may involve taking additional credits beyond what is required to graduate with a single concentration.
Minor Policy for the Girard School of Business
Non-Business Administration majors can declare a minor in one of the nine areas offered through the Girard School of Business.
Business Administration majors who want to declare a minor must choose one outside of the Girard School of Business.
Double Minor Policy for the Girard School of Business
Non-Business Administration majors may complete two minors (a double minor) within the Girard School of Business.
Students selecting a double minor must complete all course requirements for each minor AND a minimum of 20 credits for each minor. MGT 1100 - Introduction to Business may overlap between the two GSB minors; this means EACH minor must complete MGT 1100 - Introduction to Business plus an additional 16 credits. If additional courses within selected minors overlap, students must take additional electives within each minor to fulfill the 20 credit requirement.
Double Concentration Policy for the Girard School of Business
Business Administration majors may complete up to two concentrations within the Girard School of Business.
If a student chooses to complete two concentrations, they cannot pair the following combinations together:
- Human Resource Management AND Management
Additionally, students cannot use more than one course (four credits) toward the two concentrations. If a student is pursuing two concentrations (both five courses (20 credits)) and some courses satisfy both concentrations, the student must complete a minimum of nine courses (36 credits) in total to satisfy the requirements of the two concentrations.
Double Major Policy for Economics/Finance Major and Business Administration Major with Concentration in Finance
Students are able to double major in Business Administration with a Finance Concentration and Economics/Finance if all electives for both majors/concentration are unique. FIN 4431 - Applied Corporate Finance does not satisfy a elective for the Economics/Finance major.
Pass/Fail Policy for the Girard School of Business
In addition to the College’s Pass/Fail policy, Business Administration and Finance majors may only take open electives (courses taken outside of their Liberal Studies core, Business Administration Core Requirement, Finance Major Requirements, and Concentration Requirements) as pass/fail.
Technology Requirement for the Girard School of Business
In the Girard School of Business, students will be using various software applications throughout their academic career. All Girard School of Business majors and minors (depending on the minor) are strongly recommended to have a laptop computer (Mac, Windows) that has a battery life of at least two hours (ideally for a full class period) with Microsoft Office 365 pre-installed. Microsoft Office 365 is free for students through Merrimack College’s IT Department.
For students using a different device, e.g., iPad, students should contact faculty members for courses that list “GSB Technology Requirement” before registering for the course.
