Mission
The School of Arts and Sciences provides the core foundation for lifelong learning in the Arts, Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences.
We apply the different principles, methodologies, and technologies of these areas toward the goal of understanding and improving the world.
We seek to:
-
Encourage creative thinking through innovative scientific achievement, meaningful social action, and thoughtful artistic expression.
-
Explore useful solutions to real-world problems.
-
Nurture intellectual growth, civic engagement and spiritual wellness.
Inspired by the Augustinian tradition, the School of Arts and Sciences promotes curiosity, facilitates collaboration, and celebrates cooperation in a diverse, vibrant, and inclusive learning Community.
We educate our students to recognize how the past informs the present and how both guide us to the future.
Our programs explore compelling ideas, issues, and values to support our students’ growth. We develop well-informed, critical, inventive, and reflective thinkers empowered with career-ready skills to lead productive and meaningful lives in a changing world.
Vision
Our vision is to provide distinctive and nationally recognized programs in the arts and sciences that inspire students and faculty to make a meaningful impact on their community.
Description
Our programs are inherently interdisciplinary and our courses engage students in conversation and exploration about their lives and the world around them. Students will learn to communicate effectively, think critically, integrate diverse experiences, and process information from multiple perspectives. The School of Arts and Sciences emphasizes immersive learning, such as hosting a radio show; creating a work of art; or synthesizing a new chemical compound. Our curricula provide transformative experiences that create meaningful career pathways.
The School of Arts and Sciences embraces Merrimack’s Augustinian identity through our dedication to the pursuit of knowledge as a community activity, informed by dialogue between faith and reason. We are inspired by the Augustinian Order’s commitment to social justice and its long history of engagement in education. The study of the arts and sciences is at the heart of Merrimack’s curriculum. Whatever your interest, we welcome you to learn, discover, innovate, and grow with us. Whatever your major, you will be equipped with the skillset requisite for personal and professional success.
