DSE 4900 - Data Science Capstone

The purpose of the Data Science Capstone is for students to apply theoretical knowledge acquired during the Data Science major to a project involving data in a realistic setting. Students experience the entire project lifecycle: identifying the problem, conducting background research, collecting and processing data, applying suitable and appropriate data mining and predictive analytic methods, and delivering a final data analytic solution. Both the problem statements for the project assignments and the datasets originate from real-world domains as specified by a faculty, industry or government sponsor, who may be either internal or external to Merrimack. Throughout the capstone experience, students learn team project management and build written and oral communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences. Seminars supplement the project-based experience with topics related to data management, data security, data ethical issues, and other topics to prepare students for post-graduate employment.
