CRM 1700 - Criminalistics

Forensic science, also known as criminalistics, is the application of scientific techniques to the recognition, collection, documentation, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence in criminal cases. This course introduces students to the broad field of forensic science. Topics covered in the course include DNA and fingerprint analysis, blood stain pattern analysis, firearms examination and ballistics, toxicology, hair and fiber analysis, shoeprint and tire tread analysis, drug chemistry, paint and glass analysis, and arson and explosives. Students will engage in classroom instruction and hands-on activities that demonstrate their understanding of the investigation and processing of crime scene evidence, including participation in a mock crime scene investigation, fingerprinting, and field trips.
