NUR 3500 - Pediatric Nursing

Credits: 4
This course applies a family-centered care approach and knowledge of growth and development of health issues of children to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Students will explore the social, cultural, ethical, and legal influences on children and their families. Additional topics covered will include acute and chronic childhood illnesses, genetics, health promotion, injury prevention, as well as building on previous knowledge of pallaitive and end of life care. Principles integrated throughout the course include child advocacy and communication with the child and family. Experiential learning will include acute care and various community settings such as schools, clinics, and homes. Simulation/lab experiences will build on thsoe skills mastered during the previous semesters.
