Minor Requirements


Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of health lifestyles and research for injury and disease prevention. Public health work involves analyzing the effect on health of genetics, personal choice and the environment in order to develop programs that protect the health of families and communities. The Department of Health Sciences offers a minor in public health, which can complement majors in many diverse fields. The 20-credit minor requires three core courses, see below, and two selected courses chosen from an list of approved related courses in Communications, Biology, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women and Gender Studies and Writing. Students in this minor will be assigned and advisor from the Health Sciences faculty.
