The Master of Science in Health and Wellness Management program prepares students to become leaders in the rapidly growing wellness industry. As society contends with an aging population, increased healthcare spending, and the Affordable Care Act, the number of health care jobs is projected to grow dramatically-fueling demand for health and wellness professionals with the specialized knowledge and training in keeping people or all ages healthy.

Courses such as Chronic Disease Prevention, Public Health Policy and Management, and Leading Effective Teams provide a diverse curriculum with a foundation in theory that emphasizes practical application. Throughout the program, students acquire strategies for preventing illness and injury, reducing the risk of chronic disease, and promoting healthier lives.

 

Career Opportunities with a Master of Science in Health and Wellness Management

Successful completion of this program will qualify students to work in positions such as health promotions manager, wellness director, employee health director, public health specialist, health communications director, wellness coach, behavioral health specialist, health insurance and clinical care coordinator, and other related careers. A wide variety of employment opportunities exist in the healthcare, public health settings, wellness, and academic settings, as well as in the corporate/private industry sector.

 

Admissions Requirements

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a health-related field such as public health; health education/health promotion; exercise science/kinesiology; human performance; human nutrition; biomechanics; or closely related field.

Students with a bachelor’s degree in a science field, but one that is not considered a direct healthcare profession (e.g., biology, biomedical sciences, etc.), and those with a non-science degree from fields such as health communications, healthcare administration, psychology/sociology, human development, education, or other field may be required to take an additional undergraduate course prior to enrolling or while concurrently taking courses in the graduate program.

Standardized test scores are optional. Merrimack College reserves the right to ask any applicant for additional supplemental requirements in consideration of their application, including, but not limited to an in-person interview.
