The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) degree program meets the growing demand for mental health counseling in a number of different settings, including outpatient centers, hospitals, colleges, human resource departments, substance abuse treatment centers, non-profits, and government agencies. The CMHC program enables students to fulfill the requirements to apply for the designation of Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Aligned with the mission of Merrimack College the program emphasizes the development of professionals who are committed to the delivery of quality care to culturally diverse clients and families, using strength-based approaches. The program’s structure demonstrates the commitment to social justice and community engagement.
Admissions Requirements
A completed application, writing sample, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation are required. The GRE is not required. Applicants deemed appropriate for the program based on their admissions materials are granted an interview. Applicants must complete the required interview to complete the application process. Once all materials are submitted and the interview is conducted, the admissions committee makes a final decision.
Requirements of the Degree
The program is 60 credits consisting of coursework, practicum and internship placement, and clinical supervision. Full time students can complete the program in 2 years. Students may enroll part-time and complete the program in 3 to 4 years.
