By combining the perspectives and methodologies of both sociology and international studies, students will be prepared for careers that require an understanding of global social dynamics and cultural competencies. They will learn the skills to address complex social challenges on an international scale. Possible career trajectories include social and global policy research, journalism/foreign correspondent, advocacy, diplomat or foreign service officer, cultural affairs officer, international law, education, and many other fields. Students will gains skills in critical thinking, cultural competency, qualitative and quantitative research, spreadsheet software, data analysis, data visualization, written and oral communication, and leadership.

Major Requirements


Majors are required to take eleven total courses in the disciplines of sociology and political science.

International Studies Concentration courses - Choose any  2 courses from within one of the four areas of concentration below. Each course must have a different course designation (POL, HIS, ECO, etc.), unless they are International Studies (INT) courses. These course designations do not need to be different from those for the courses chosen to fulfill the core requirements for the minor.
