Environmental Data Science (EDS) combines two popular majors at Merrimack College: Environmental Sciences and Sustainability and Data Science. The EDS major is designed to teach students how to manage environmental challenges and resources through the lens of data science and critical and analytical thinking by synthesizing, mining, and understanding data. The curriculum uses a variety of analytical approaches to assess and explore patterns in environmental problems, identify solutions, and communicate quantitative information to policymakers and the public, including through the visualization of data. Graduates of the major will be prepared for a variety of career fields as environmental data scientists, analysts, and consultants.

Major Requirements


The major requires the completion of ten courses: four core data science courses, four core environmental sciences and sustainability courses, one data science elective, and one environmental sciences elective, as outlined below.
