Biology is the core life science program. The Biology program provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education offering courses aimed at breadth and depth of study, including cellular and molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, genetics, physiology, organismal biology, animal behavior, plant biology and physiology, conservation biology, ecology, and evolution. The minor excludes courses such as BIO 1106 Human Biology and BIO 2009 Environmental Biology designed for non-majors. Students should consult their biology advisor for the minor when deciding on courses to take.

Minor Requirements

The minor consists of a minimum of five courses, as outlined below.

Required Courses

Complete the following two courses:

BIO 1027 - Principles of Biology I Credits: 4 (Note: BIO 1025 Introduction to Biological Science I may be substituted for BIO 1027 Principles of Biology I .)
BIO 1028 - Principles of Biology II Credits: 4
And complete either or both of the following courses:
BIO 2010 - Ecology Credits: 4
BIO 2018 - Genetics Credits: 4

Elective Courses

Choose one or two additional upper-level Biology (BIO) courses as electives. Note: Many upper-level biology courses have prerequisites such as genetics, ecology, or chemistry.
