Minors are an important part of any college experience and can complement and enhance your major in unique ways. The Department of Visual and Performing Arts minors are designed for you to gain valuable skills, understand history and critically engage with the content of the coursework. By choosing a minor, you can increase your competitive edge upon graduation.

Minor Requirements
The Music minor requires the completion of a minimum of five courses (20 credits), as specified below.
Core Courses
Complete the following three required courses:
Required Elective
Choose one elective course in Music (MUS).

Demonstration of competence to the senior music faculty member in performance and/or composition. Assistance in obtaining private instruction on the student’s chosen instrument will be given. The student will be expected to give a public performance and/or presentation, preferably in the last year of the degree.

Participation for at least two semesters in at least one on-campus musical ensemble. (Currently the music ensembles include Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Concert Choir, Concert Band, and Merrimack Schola).

Alternatives such as participating in the musical pit orchestra may be approved by the senior music faculty member.
