Major Requirements
This bachelor’s degree program requires a minimum of 124 credits. As part of the overall 124 credit minimum, the history major requires a minimum of 38 credits and a minimum of ten history courses. In addition, in order to better understand other cultures and conduct research, students must either successfully complete two courses in the same modern foreign language at the intermediate level or its equivalent; or complete two additional approved cognate courses at the 3000 level.

- Three elective history courses at the 2000 level or above, including HIS3000 special topics courses.
Note
Up to eight credits of History internship (HIS 4986 and HIS 4987) can count towards the major requirements.
Student Learning Outcomes
The Senior Thesis, HIS 4991 , is intended to achieve the following student learning outcomes: the ability to formulate a clear argument; the ability to employ the correct mechanics of English grammar and syntax; the ability to follow historians’ conventions of citation; the ability to analyze sources; and the ability to synthesize facts in a logical way.
Major GPA. To graduate with a major in history, a student must achieve a 2.00 grade point average in the major courses. The GPA for the History major will be calculated by taking the average of courses designated HIS.
