Nutritional Sciences, B.S.

The Nutrition Sciences major introduces students to the important role that nutrition plays in human health and wellness. Required courses explore the fundamentals of nutritional science, the public health applications of nutrition in the community, the clinical dimensions of human nutrition, and nutritional perspectives within the food services industry. Students enrolled in the Nutritional Sciences major are prepared for entry- level positions in the health and wellness and food services fields. Graduates of this major are encouraged to continue their education in graduate programs designed to maximize career options and mobility in the growing field of human nutrition. For those with advanced degrees, employment opportunities exist in the dietetics, research, teaching, food service, community and clinical nutrition fields, with growing prospects in the public health and nutrition education areas.

 A Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Sciences is awarded to students who complete four years of academic study on campus (minimum of 128 school credits; minimum of 82 school credits): Courses required in this major include:

Students will choose from a list of nutritional sciences electives, health sciences electives, and interdisciplinary elections from across the College chosen for their relevance to interdisciplinary aspects of nutritional sciences. Health science electives and interdisciplinary electives can be found at the Health Sciences Department. Below is a list of nutritional sciences electives:

Note


Students choosing any of the majors in the department who are interested in professional programs in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, physician assistant, etc, should be consulting with their advisor to be sure that they are meeting all necessary prerequisites. Students choosing this concentration who are interested in professional programs in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, etc. should be sure to include CHM 2220 , CHM 2220L and 2 semesters of physics with lab in their program.
