This course examines 1) recent changes to accounting standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), such as revenue recognition and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) accounting and disclosures, and 2) advances in accounting and audit technology, such as robotic process automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, automated transaction processing, big data, data analytics, and enterprise resource planning systems. Students develop a nuanced understanding of the complex financial reporting process and ethical issues confronted by the business community and accounting profession.
