PHL 1400 - Introduction to Philosophy through Mindful Practice

Credits: 4
This course is an introduction to philosophy with a focus on mindful and embodied practice. The course focuses on the themes of mind, body, self-consciousness, self-awareness, and the role of each in the nature of the self and in our experiences as human beings: Are we our minds and thoughts? Are we defined by our bodies? In what ways? What aspects of our bodies impact our experiences most? How are mind and body related? What does it mean to be self-aware? Students will engage in philosophical thinking by practicing critical analysis, thoughtful reasoning, and self-reflection. Students will also engage - together and independently - in mindful and embodied practices such as meditation, yoga, and other forms of mindful movement.
