ENG 3725 - The Body in British LiteratureCredits: 4 This course will focus on representations of the human body in a variety of literary works composed by British writers prior to the emergence of what we customarily call “modern medicine.” The governing methodology of the course is based on the prospect that literary representations of illness often work counter to the orthodoxies informing professional medical practice, creating friction (or dynamism), an example of the capacity of literature to shape cultural knowledge, treatments, and perceptions concerning illness and wellness. This course counts toward the English major British literature requirement. Prerequisite(s): ENG 1050 Fulfills: AL in LS Core
