HSP 3000 - Introduction to Hospitality ManagementCredits: 4 This course introduces the history, opportunities, problems, and trends of the hospitality industry. It covers the organization of the various sectors of the hospitality industry including human resources, general business considerations, and management theory, and the impact of tourism on economic conditions, all within a global context. The basic purpose of this course is to provide general knowledge of the hospitality industry in order to prepare students for managerial roles in lodging and food service businesses. Major topics to be included: the hospitality industry and you, resort operations, hospitality history, commercial food service businesses, institutional food service, The hotel-motel business operations, managed services, recreation, attractions and clubs, gaming entertainment, meetings, conventions and expositions, special events, The emerging shape of mass market tourism and the importance of leadership and management in driving employee engagement to create unique, memorable and personalized world class service experiences.
