HSC 6550 - Nutrition Physiology

Nutrition physiology is the science of nutrient processing within the body. The course is designed to provide the students a comprehensive knowledge on how the body extracts the nutrients from food to produce energy, how nutrients are utilized for various cellular processes, and the relationship between nutrition and health. The course has special emphasis on metabolism of macronutrients, nutrient signaling, and how it relates to health and disease. Background material will be supplemented and reinforced through study of relevant systems and disease states and through laborator experimentation. Prerequisite: An introductory nutrition class, such as HSC3500.
