ASC 1050 - Optimizing Academic SuccessCredits: 1 The purpose of ASC1050 is to introduce students to evidence-based student development theories and to teach them how to apply these theoretical practices, resulting in the growth of self-regulated learners with an increased capacity to reach their full academic potential. Class time will be spent analyzing the aligment of learning concepts with the self-awareness and academic practice to determine which practices best facilitate success. Students will explore topics including self-efficacy, growth-mindset, and metacognition. The goal is for students to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their approaches to learning though these concepts to see how the tools and strategies discussed in class can inform academic growth and development. Students will end the course with an understanding of psychological processes related to learning, the value of a growth mindset and self-efficacy, and an ability to apply evidence-based learning strategies to their academic practices. This is a one credit course available to students who are not in the Phoenix program.
