CRM 4100 - Victimology

Credits: 4
Victimology is the study of victims of crime. In this course, we will examine patterns of victimization, characteristics of victims, and the consequences of crime for victims. Additionally, we will study the role of victims in the U.S. criminal justice system including their rights and remedies. Particular attention will be paid to the development of criminological theories that explain risk for victimization. Throughout the semester we will emphasize the controversies surrounding victims including the tension between victim and defendant rights, victim blaming, and worthy victim stereotypes.
Prerequisite(s): C- or better in CRM 1000
