THR 2580 - Design for the Theatre

Live theater combines the collective efforts of several areas of art and design. This course provides an introduction to the history, philosophy, and basic skills utilized in the design of scenic, lighting, and costume for the theater. Students will proceed through the stages of design, from research to implementation, learning the skills necessary to create effective and unique theatrical designs. Practical skills covered will include basic design research, design development techniques, communication skills, rendering and sketching, CAD, and model making. Classwork will include research projects, written reflection papers, comparative analysis projects, student designed projects, and a formal final design presentation..
