DSA 5021 - Foundations of Statistics for Engineers

Credits: 4
This course provides students with foundational knowledge of statistical thinking and methods.  Statistics is an applied field with a wide range of practical applications.  Students will learn from real and interesting data.  Data are messy and statistical tools are imperfect.  But, this course will assist students with understanding the strengths and weaknesses of these tools and use them to learn about the world.  The following topics will be covered:  introduction to data, data summarization, probability, distributions of random variables, inference foundations, inference for categorical data, inference for numerical data, linear regression, multiple regression and logistic regression.  Statistical labs will utilize R as the programming language of choice.  
Prerequisite(s): Completion of an undergraduate statistics course.
