The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree will expand the environmental program offerings to our students while both building upon and complementing the existing B.A. in Environmental Studies and Sustainability. The overarching goals in the development of the new B.S. degree is to be able to offer students more flexibility in their degree choices, increase their career options, and provide a new, more technical and science-based option for students interested in the environment.  We believe the new B.S degree will have positive impacts on both the recruitment of new students and the retention of existing students who will have a new degree option in the sciences to explore. In turn, this increases revenue to the College and enhances Merrimack’s reputation as a College that offers a diversity of Programs to meet both student and societal needs. The new degree will have three concentrations: Environmental Operations; Environmental Analysis and Environment and Natural Systems.

The proposed new degree also is linked to the College’s Agenda for Distinction that calls for:

  • Encouraging interdisciplinary studies across the Schools that are consistent with Merrimack’s academic mission, represent a strategic advancement, and meet the needs of students and society
  • Developing distinctive models of undergraduate and graduate education through strategic investments in unique programs to expand enrollment
  • Clarifying and strengthening the links between our academic programs and the public service performed by our faculty, students, administrators, and staff

The mission of the new Environmental Science degree is to create an interdisciplinary, science-based curriculum to produce graduates that are equipped with the critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and respond to the environmental issues that exist on local, regional and global scales
