HSC 3250 - Social Determinants of Health through Community EngagementCredits: 4 Formerly: HSC2230 In this course, students will address critical societal issues and contribute to the good of the public through service learning and community engagement. In collaboration with several community partners, students will participate in the Merrimack Valley Area Health Education Center (MVAHEC)Scholars program, which addresses the concern of health disparities in the Commonwealth with an educational focus on interprofessional education, social determinants of health, cultural competency, and current public health trends. Through class seminars, online assignments, and experiential learning, students will address social inequities and the social determinants of health for urban populations, with particular focus on the Lawrence community, by increasing student knowledge, exposure, and participation in community public health efforts to combat these issues. Prerequisite(s): HSC 1500
