HSC 5400 - US Healthcare Ecosystems

The US healthcare ecosystem is a dynamic and complex environment and data analytics continues to play an increasingly greater role, influencing the key aspects of our healthcare system. This course provides a foundational knowledge of healthcare, insight into how data-driven decisions influence business and the importance of a value-based metric framework to maintain successful outcomes. Students will gain a basic understanding of the core components of the healthcare system (public, private, regulatory, healthcare professionals), focusing on a broad range of organizational roles, capabilities and essential data types.  The aim is to look beyond data collection, to analyzing available healthcare data and making it actionable information utilized by high performing healthcare entities. The ability to understand the core business structure, how to interpret data and who the decision makers are, is essential to every healthcare stakeholder responsible for driving the future of healthcare innovation.
